President’s Corner

NEAHMA President
I am sure you have all heard the phrase There is no I in T-E-A-M from a coach or a supervisor. The meaning was to motivate you to see the bigger picture and think about others. We are so busy in our lives these days that we seem to experience tunnel vision and only see life right in front of us. We have our family, our jobs, friends and maybe our hobbies. Some of us volunteer to coach our children’s sports teams, or you may help in your children’s schools assisting with field trips, parties, and other events.
We have the cause.
You have the effect
Have you thought about volunteering in some capacity in your professional life? NEAHMA has several great committee opportunities that may interest you personal and professionally. We are always looking for motivated professionals.
Volunteers do not necessarily have the time,They have the heart!
NEAHMA’s committee for Education and Training is perfect for you if you are interested in working with adult learners in your profession. This committee develops the training calendar for NEAHMA and identifies new trainings that are relevant in the industry as well as the credentialing classes (FHC, CPO, ACPO and SHCM). Earn your NAHP, NAHP-3, NAHMT, NAHMS and CGPM NAHMA certifications throughout the year. What better way to voice the educational needs of your company by assisting with this committee?
Volunteers are not paid because they are worthless but because they are priceless.
The Energy and Sustainability committee is a great opportunity is you are interested in helping members find ways to lower their carbon footprint. This committee shall be the catalyst for working with NEAHMA member firms on the myriad of energy, sustainability and green initiatives. These include but are not limited to providing guidance on how to apply for energy upgrade grants, rebate or other incentive programs; develop and recommend to the board programs to support this mission and to craft the organizations energy reduction position statement.
“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.”
-Winston Churchill
For those who are passionate about advocating for the affordable housing programs, NEAHMAs Grassroots committee advocates on behalf of members to raise the level of awareness regarding the preservation of affordable housing programs and other issues related to ownership, financing, management and compliance, at the local, state, and/or federal level. The purpose of these efforts is so that we can help to influence public perception, regulations, or public policy such as pending legislation that affects our sector / industry.
Those who can, do.
Those who can do more, volunteer
If working with and giving back to the community is important to you start with Charity Committee. This committee holds events such as volunteering at a local food bank, and coordinating Donation Drives for Team NEAHMA charities. Or you could join the Kid’s Day Committee which is all about coordinating and planning NEAHMA Annual Kids Day event and Poster Contest.
Things get solved if you get involved
The other great committee opportunities available are Annual Conference, Maintenance Sub-committee of Training and Education, Marketing/Membership/PR, Communities of Quality, Credentialing and Affiliates. As I said before, there are so many opportunities available.
Volunteers dont just do the work ~they make it work

NEAHMA members are some of the brightest and the most caring folks in our industry. I have met so many wonderful people from member companies and affiliate members who have helped to enrich NEAHMA with their ideas. It would be wonderful for you all to use your voices and share your ideas. The contacts you make and the insights you gain from working with others is truly priceless.
