The coronavirus crisis has caused a major spike in unemployment rated, leaving many of our tenants unemployed and with limited or no sources of income. As a result, many tenants have been unable to pay rent and have accumulated large balances of unpaid rent, causing income deficits for management companies as well. The expiration of the 120-day ban on evictions for non-payment of rent under the CARES Act (March 27, 2020) leaves many households vulnerable for eviction and housing providers chasing large balances they may not collect.
During this informative training, we will review the Moratorium on Evictions under the CARES Act and discuss tentative solutions for households with unpaid rent that doesn’t require eviction. We will discuss recommendation for assessing a household’s ability to pay rent and guidance for negotiating repayment agreements.
