From unwitting suppliers, aging addicts, and the rise in exploitation of those most vulnerable in order to fuel this addiction, we’re looking at the hidden dangers and how we can collaborate to intervene and reduce harm.

 

Anne Hughes is the CT-licensed Master of Social Work Advocate for the Center on Elder Abuse Prevention and The Institute on Aging at Jewish Senior Services in Bridgeport.  Anne assists in responding to and investigating CEAP reports of elder abuse, as well as raises public awareness of elder abuse, training healthcare professionals, families, and community members on how to identify, respond to and reduce the adverse effects of abuse, neglect and financial exploitation of seniors. As a Geriatric Case Manager collaborating with local organizations and services, she hunts resources for elder folks facing health transitions to thrive.  She is also a long-time community activist and believes in bringing flair and fashion into civic engagement, or proactivism. “This is what festive democracy looks like.”  Anne hopes to ‘deputize’ all the Care Managers to don their figurative Superhero capes, and amp up the awareness to fend off the epidemic of targeting elders for exploitation, and champion safe communities for aging neighbors everywhere
