Aging Rainbow: Creating Safe and Inclusive Services for LGBT Older-Adults Webinar
Trainer: Ruben Rivera-Jackman, MNPL
There is a distrust of Health Care and Social Services by LGBT Older-Adults. As
Baby-Boomers engage with health and social services sector it will be important for
aging services providers to deliver services that are respectful and culturally
competent. Many aging services providers see no need to discuss LGBT aging issues
because: They dont want to discriminate. Or They dont want to make people feel
uncomfortable. While well-intentioned, it leaves many LGBT older-adults feeling that
they must hide who they are, in order to take advantage of health, housing, and social
service programs.
Webinar Participants Will:
1. Enhance their understanding of the importance of presventing LGBTQ older-adults from having to re-enter the closet in their golden years.
2. Increase awareness and empathy amongst aging services providers about the issues and needs of LGBT older-adults.
3. Identify strategies designed to help aging services providers to continue to do the things they do very well already, while enhancing their ability to extend this same great care and service to LGBT older-adults.
